Worcester Words

Today Iain and I packed up the exhibit at the Worcester PopUp and stowed the portraits at home for a few weeks. There were still viewers there reading and we were told the gallery has had a steady stream of people from all over, including out-of-state to see it. I wanted to share with you some of the contributions to the participation board and some messages in the guestbook:

I love this project so much. Thank you for showing the ‘other side of the coin’ so to say. It’s a reminder that this world is such a beautiful place full of amazing people.

Outstanding! Both the artwork and the essays. We need to do more in this country to help all with disabilities especially caring for our mental health. I enjoyed your show immensely.

I cannot believe that someone would have such talent. However above and beyond that to make the subjects come alive through your artistry and stories is amazing. I am so glad my friends and I decided to come today.

As a person with mental illness I know firsthand the difficulties your portrait subjects have lived through. I found this exhibit to be inspiring. It will help me remember that I am more. Thank you for doing this project.

I greatly agree that the stigma needs to be removed from all kinds of mental illness. God bless you for what you have done, and are doing.

Thank you so much for bringing this exhibit to Worcester. After years of dealing with mental health issues, this city is the first place that I have found community, stable treatment, a feeling of safety and finally happiness. Seeing this exhibit brought me tears, joy, and a general feeling of support and love.

  2. What lovely comments Amy. Your amazing project has touched many on such a personal level. Saw it in Gloucester and was so impressed by how candid people were willing to be and how excellent the portraits are. It’s an inspired effort. Thanks for being and inciting bravery!
