Collaborative Collage

In order to include more voices in the Northshore Mall I Am More Exhibition/Mental Health Resource Center, your class/group/organization can create a collage of statements about what the words, “I am more,” mean to each individual, such as, “I am more than…” “I am more because of…” “I am…”

The idea is to provide viewers who may not have much time to read an essay, to catch a quick bite of the project, and leave them with a message that resonates as they go about their day. It also provides individuals a chance to share their voice even if they’re not artists, or would prefer not to have their image included. It’s a great activity for art clubs within organizations like teen drop-in centers, art therapy groups and senior centers.

The statements can be handwritten on a larger sheet or on smaller cards or pieces of paper and artfully combined in any way desired. If you have a creative member of your group they can lead on choosing materials and arranging the statements for maximum readability and visual interest. Feel free to include the name of your organization and its location.

Here is an audience participation collage from the Worcester opening of I Am More: Massachusetts in 2019:

Collages can be up to 30 inches wide and should be on a firm surface like foamcore, with one-sided Command velcro on the back to attach to the display panels. Please include your contact info on the back so that it can be returned to you. Collages will be displayed on a first come/first serve basis for at least a month at Northshore Mall in front of Macy’s.

Please contact Amy Kerr at amykerrdraws@gmail.com to participate, and thanks so much for helping to share this message!
